Jaivik TattooFirst tattoo ideas
A first tattoo does not need to be big or complicated. These are simple designs and easier placements, plus what to expect on the day, so your first experience goes smoothly.
Start with something you will still like
Pick a design you have liked for a long time, not one you saw last week. A simple, personal design in a spot that is easy to heal is a good way to learn how you feel about tattooing before you decide on anything larger.
Ideas to start from
- A small symbol
- A star, a wave, a moon or a flower, in clean lines on the wrist or forearm.
- A short word
- One word that matters to you, in a font you have checked on paper first.
- A matching tattoo with a friend
- Going together makes the first sitting easier, and the design is shared.
- A flower
- A single bloom or a sprig, in fine line, is a forgiving first design.
- A small version of a bigger plan
- If you want a sleeve later, start with one small element of it.

Where to place it
Muscle-padded areas are easier for a first tattoo: the outer forearm, the outer upper arm and the calf. Bony or thin-skinned areas, such as the ribs, spine, ankles and feet, hurt more, and many people save them for later. Choose a spot you can easily keep clean and out of the sun while it heals.
Healing and aftercare
On the day, eat a proper meal, drink water and wear clothes that give easy access to the area. Follow the aftercare steps you are given, and see the aftercare guide for the basics.

Questions people ask
Should I book or walk in?
Walk-ins may be available, but booking in advance is recommended so your preferred artist and time are free.
How do I pick a design?
Choose something simple that you have liked for a while, and send it to the studio with the placement. The artist can adjust the size and details.
Is it normal to be nervous?
Yes. Ask the artist anything before you start. A calm consultation first makes the sitting easier.
